Jason Ross is a guy who likes to dress well and score great deals while shopping. So when he saw that all flash sale fashion sites catered only to women, he set out to start something similar for men. In 2006, he began writing the business plan for his company, and two years later, he launched JackThreads.
The members-only, online shopping club offers daily sales on contemporary, street, surf, and skate men’s apparel brands. Each day at noon, JackThreads opens five to seven sales of off-price or excess merchandise. The sales usually last for 72 hours, and stylish menswear from established brands and up-and-coming designers sell for as low as 80 percent less than retail price.
In 2010, Ross’s company teamed up with men’s digital lifestyle publication Thrillist.com. This partnership helped expand JackThreads’ membership, which now consists of 1.8 million fashion-savvy men.
Ross says JackThreads stays competitive by making sure to take care of the business’s two customers: its suppliers and its shoppers.
