An accomplished attorney with an entrepreneurial spirit, Lloyd Schwed began his career as a reporter and sportswriter for United Press International, Inc. His New Orleans beat included assignments covering federal courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and the Tulane University and New Orleans Saints football teams. The court coverage, particularly government trials involving major corruption, piqued his interest in the law. Proactive, as any good entrepreneur, Lloyd Schwed enrolled in law school, at Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. During his tenure at the institution, he gained experience in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois, serving a student clerkship with the Honorable James L. Foreman, receiving his Juris Doctor in 1985.
Over the next 27 years, the attorney with a reporter’s investigative eye honed his skills in business litigation and other areas at various firms, including Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP in Michigan; and Fowler White and Kubicki Draper in Florida. He left the latter practice in 2006 to form what eventually evolved into his present firm, Schwed, Kahle & Jenks, P.A., where he serves as owner and Managing Partner. Mr. Schwed’s areas of practice include insurance law, construction litigation, legal malpractice, securities litigation and arbitration, and professional liability at the trial and appellate levels. His career successes include the New York Stock Exchange’s largest-ever (at the time) “raiding” arbitration award, $2.5 million, in Prudential Securities Inc. v. PaineWebber & Co.; and recent insurance case Jennings Construction Services Corp. v. ACE American Insurance Co.
Lloyd Schwed holds admittance to practice before the Florida Bar; United States District Courts of the Southern, Middle, and Northern Districts of Florida; and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Beyond his professional duties, he supports the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County, Inc.; the American Heart Association, Inc.; and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. When not engaged in legal or charitable pursuits, he enjoys running, boating, and playing a good game of golf. You can learn more about Lloyd on his blog lloydschwed.tumblr.com
