The world’s youngest recipient of an Italian knighthood, entrepreneur Phillip Di Bella is the founder of Di Bella Coffee, one of the leading specialty coffee companies in Australia. Known for its consistent quality and excellent customer service, Di Bella Coffee supplies coffee to over 1,200 restaurants and cafes nationwide and is quickly becoming one of the most popular online coffee retailers in the country. Di Bella started the company in 2002 at the age of 26. Growing up, he would hear the story of how his parents went from having a thriving business and a great life in Italy to struggling and being temporarily unemployed after they migrated to Australia. Di Bella’s father worked on Sundays to earn more money and he missed out on having his dad around on a Sunday, so he knew from an early age that he wanted to be in control of his destiny when it came to work.
Di Bella decided to enter the coffee industry because it was filled with great brands that didn’t back up their promise and great quality products that didn’t know how to build a brand. Spotting an opportunity to create a company that both had an amazing brand and delivered outstanding quality, he started Di Bella Coffee as a one-man operation. Since then, the company has grown quickly and now serves 2.2 million cups of coffee throughout Australia each week.
Di Bella has been recognized for his contributions to entrepreneurship over the years. In 2005, he was a finalist for Ernst & Young’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year honor. Three years later, he won the award. Di Bella has also received Brisbane Business News’ Young Entrepreneur award in 2010 and Highly Commended honor in 2011 and 2012. Actively involved in his hometown community in Brisbane, he serves as chairman of the Queen Street Mall advisory board and director of Brisbane Marketing, among others.
