Daniel and Stephanie Rensing, Smart Bakers and Entrepreneurs

Married couple Daniel and Stephanie Rensing have been baking for their families since they were high school sweethearts. They would always look for smarter, easier, and more efficient ways to spend their time in the kitchen, and one of their biggest challenges was finding a recipe that yielded just the right amount. When they baked for themselves, they had to scale recipes down. When they made goodies for their large families, they needed to scale recipes up. Daniel and Stephanie would often find themselves converting measurements. One day, Daniel made Stephanie an apron with measurement conversions printed upside down for easy reading.

er-smartbakerIn 2009, the Rensings founded The Smart Baker to help fellow bakers be smarter in the kitchen. Their first product was the Cheat Sheet Apron, which was named one of the top 10 kitchen must-haves in the Christmas 2009 issue of Food Network Magazine. With measurement conversions printed upside down on the bottom of the garment, the Cheat Sheet Apron helps bakers save time and energy. No more checking online to figure out how many ounces are in half a cup or how to substitute a loaf pan for a square pan. With the Cheat Sheet Apron, bakers have all the information they need at their fingertips, literally.

Following the success of the Cheat Sheet Apron, the Rensings came up with more smart tools for new and advanced bakers alike. Their second product was the Measurement Conversion Towel, a cotton kitchen towel with measurement conversions to provide the same quick reference as the Cheat Sheet Apron. Today, The Smart Baker also offers adjustable cake pop stands, customizable cupcake towers, and convenient pre-cut parchment paper for cake pans and cookie sheets of various shapes and sizes.

In 2012, Daniel and Stephanie appeared in season three of Shark Tank. The Smart Baker has also been featured in Taste of the South, Cooking With Paula Deen, Lifehacker, and more.
